Brouillette reveals comprehensive nuclear energy strategy

Today, U.S. Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette announced a strategy for Restoring America's Competitive Nuclear Energy Advantage, a direct result of the efforts of the U.S. Nuclear Fuel Working Group established by President Trump in July 2019.

The Working Group's report proposes a number of actions that are designed to support the entire U.S. nuclear energy sector. These actions fall under four main objectives:

  • Provide immediate support for the U.S. uranium mining and conversion industry
  • Revitalize and strengthen the front-end of the nuclear fuel cycle and the domestic nuclear industry
  • Re-establish U.S. leadership in next generation nuclear technology through research and demonstration projects
  • Support U.S. nuclear exports through financing and trade mechanisms

ANS commends the Administration for addressing challenges that face the nuclear community. ANS will closely monitor the implementation of the strategy as we work with Congress to advance legislative action on a number of recommendations in the report.
