Equal by 30 is a campaign under the Clean Energy, Education and Empowerment (C3E) International Initiative, a multi-country-led effort to accelerate the participation of women in the world’s clean energy transition and to close the gender gap in employment opportunities and earnings. C3E International is a joint initiative of the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) and the International Energy Agency (IEA).
“As the voice of nuclear engineers and scientists, ANS is committed to taking action for achieving gender equality in the workforce,” said ANS’s new President Mary Lou Dunzik-Gougar. “Women must be encouraged and recognized for the contributions they make in nuclear science and technology.”
Dunzik-Gougar assumed the ANS presidency on June 11 from her predecessor Marilyn Kray, who will remain on the ANS Board of Directors for one year as Immediate Past President.
ANS’s partnership with Equal by 30 follows on the recent announcement that ANS Executive Director/CEO Craig Piercy has joined Gender Champions in Nuclear Policy (GCNP), continuing ANS’s commitment to breaking down gender barriers in the field of nuclear policy.
Previously, Kray represented ANS as a Gender Champion after joining in 2019, at the recommendation of the Diversity and Inclusion in ANS Committee.
“Fighting for gender equality within the nuclear profession is a vital part of making our community more inclusive and dynamic,” said Piercy. “ANS is committed to not only recognizing the contributions of women in nuclear but amplifying their voices as well.”
