The Health Physics Society (HPS) and the American Nuclear Society (ANS) are teaming up to better serve our memberships and the public in understanding radiation and nuclear safety issues. As part of the collaboration, the HPS Ask the Experts and the ANS Rapid Response Taskforce are partnering to monitor the radiological and nuclear situation in war-besieged Ukraine and are ready to answer media inquiries.

"The American Nuclear Society is proud to announce our new collaboration with the Health Physics Society in communicating radiation and nuclear safety to the public by answering inquiries from the media and policymakers," said ANS President Steven P. Nesbit. "The mission of the collaboration is to provide the public, the media, and decisionmakers with science-based, technical expertise on radiation and nuclear technologies."

"The Health Physics Society is pleased to collaborate with the American Nuclear Society to assist the media in promoting fact-based reporting and to help respond to public inquiries on radiation safety and related issues,” said HPS President John Cardarelli.

The American Nuclear Society is the leading not-for-profit scientific professional organization dedicated to the peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology. Founded in 1954, ANS represents over 10,000 nuclear engineers, scientists and technologists in the U.S. and around the world.

The HPS brings expertise in several key areas, including radiation effects, internal and external dosimetry, homeland security, emergency response, and radiation safety, among others. Through this collaboration, ANS and HPS members with a variety of specialties stand ready to answer questions from the media and the public.

"Through the collaboration of HPS and ANS, journalists and decisionmakers will have access to leading experts in radiation and nuclear science to answer their questions and to combat misinformation and alarmism whenever necessary," said Nesbit.
