The new: The compendium report highlights the major advanced reactor developers, reviewing their current development and deployment status and documenting their public agreements with outside parties, including the private sector, government, universities, and international organizations. Included are looks at ARC Clean Energy, BWX Technologies, GE-Hitachi, General Atomics, Holtec International, Kairos Power, NuScale Power, Oklo, TerraPower, Terrestrial Energy, Ultra Safe Nuclear, Westinghouse, and X-energy.
The improved: The NIA’s updated primer offers basic information on advanced reactors to help the public and stakeholders understand the technology’s promise, with a focus on U.S. and Canadian reactors in development, both water-cooled and non-water-cooled. Among the latter, salt- and sodium-cooled reactors; high-temperature, gas-cooled reactors; gas-cooled fast reactors; and microreactors are discussed.
What they’re saying: “The company compendium serves as an introduction to the advanced reactor business ecosystem for potential investors and other key stakeholders, while the primer is intended as a ‘101’ document that explains the characteristics of the most common advanced nuclear reactors and leading designs,” said NIA executive director Judi Greenwald. “Considering how both the business side and the technology side of the advanced nuclear energy community are evolving, both documents are intended to be ‘online’ documents, and they will be updated over time.”
