New and immersive internship and development opportunities are being offered through a partnership of Westinghouse Electric Company and the Ukrainian nuclear energy utility Energoatom. Beginning this autumn, more than 60 opportunities will be available for Ukrainian nuclear energy professionals and graduate-level students.
Training program details: The internship program involves months of hands-on training with Westinghouse’s AP1000 Generation III+ pressurized water reactor technology at the company’s global headquarters in Cranberry Township, Pa. The multiyear program is designed to prepare participants for engineering, technical, and technological positions with Westinghouse’s new AP1000 construction projects in Ukraine. Many of these positions will be at the recently established Westinghouse Engineering and Technology Center in Ukraine’s capital city of Kyiv. Training will also be aimed at providing support for future nuclear decommissioning projects in Ukraine.
Agreements: According to existing agreements that were expanded in June, Westinghouse will build nine AP1000 plants with Energoatom across Ukraine (rather than the previously agreed-upon five), as well as supply all nuclear fuel for Energoatom’s operating nuclear fleet. The design and construction work will involve supply chains in both the United States and Ukraine. The newly announced training program is expected to strengthen the existing Westinghouse-Energoatom partnership.
