NRC seeks public comment on Diablo Canyon license renewal application

Plant operator Pacific Gas & Electric filed the application in November 2023, requesting renewal of the licenses for an additional 20 years of operation. Diablo Canyon’s operating licenses expire in November 2024 for Unit 1 and in August 2025 for Unit 2.

The meetings: NRC staff will conduct a virtual meeting from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (PST) on February 1.

The second meeting will be in-person only and will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (PST) on February 8 at the Embassy Suites San Luis Obispo.

Before the second meeting, the staff will hold an “open house” from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (PST) for informal discussion and to answer questions from members of the public.

At both meetings, NRC staff will seek the public’s input in identifying potentially significant issues that should be addressed in the NRC’s environmental review of the plant’s application.
