Support: Beginning this year, L&A will increase its annual contribution for the next five years from $25,000 to $30,000. The company will also extend its commitment for an additional five years, with annual contributions of $35,000, bringing the company’s total contribution over 15 years to $450,000. L&A has also pledged $50,000 to WMS to support its STEM activities.
“We’re proud to support WM and the Post Foundation in their efforts to support students interested in pursuing careers in our industry,” said John Longenecker, L&A chief executive officer. “These students will go on to become the next generation of leaders that the United States will need to continue to advance national security, environmental remediation, and clean energy development.”
Scholarships: L&A has established scholarship agreements with several universities, including the University of South Carolina–Aiken, Tennessee Tech University, and Northern New Mexico College, and also supports local school district programs.
The Post Foundation is named after Roy G. Post, who was WM’s founding chief executive. To date, the foundation has awarded almost 300 scholarships totaling about $1.5 million.
“Funding graduate and undergraduate scholarships for students pursuing careers in the nuclear industry is one of the most powerful ways we can help develop the leaders of tomorrow,” said Robert Berry, Post Foundation Board of Trustees president.
