Statement from The American Nuclear Society on FY 2024 Consolidated Appropriations Act

Statement from Craig Piercy, CEO and Executive Director of the American Nuclear Society, on the Fiscal Year 2024 Consolidated Appropriations Act:

“On behalf of our 10,000 members, the American Nuclear Society applauds the bipartisan support for nuclear energy, science, and technology showcased in the FY 2024 Consolidated Appropriations Act.

Provisions in the Energy and Water Division of the bill seek to increase domestic uranium enrichment capabilities, including high-assay low-enriched uranium availability, which is essential to reduce U.S. reliance on foreign sources to power current and future commercial reactors. The proposed legislation includes commercialization assistance for U.S. advanced reactors as well as support for a new nuclear safety training program for future workforce development. Initiatives like these are crucial if we are to secure our nuclear fuel supply chain, end our reliance on Russian uranium imports, and restore American leadership in nuclear energy.

We strongly urge Congress to act swiftly.”
