The American Nuclear Society is hosting its next online Educator Training series event, “In the Lab with Nuclear Scientists: Critical and Sub-critical Assemblies,” on Thursday, March 7, at 6:00–7:00 pm ET.

Registration for the free event is required.

About: To nuclear scientists, Comet is a critical assembly, a type of reactor essential in conducting experiments using fissionable materials. ANS invites K-12 educators to attend this discussion and learn how critical and sub-critical assemblies like Comet and its creatively named brethren Planet, Flat-top, and Godiva IV are used in nuclear experiments.

A Q&A session will follow the presentation, so send your and your students’ questions in advance to webinars@ans.org.

The panelists

  • David Ames, site manager for the Department of Energy National Community Solar Partnership, Sandia National Laboratory
  • Kelsey Amundson, a research and development engineer at Los Alamos National Laboratory
  • Jesse Norris, a nuclear criticality safety engineer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Can't attend live? Register and you'll be sent a link to the recording.
