The International Atomic Energy Agency has announced the opening of this year’s application process for its Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Program (MSCFP), which is designed to “inspire and encourage young women to pursue a career in the nuclear field, by providing highly motivated female students with scholarships for master’s programs and an opportunity to pursue an internship facilitated by the IAEA,” according to the program description.

More than 100 students who are accepted into the program will receive as much as €20,000 ($21,775) for tuition costs and another equal amount for living costs.

Apply now: Interested students have until September 30 to submit applications on the IAEA website.

Basic requirements: Applicants are required to be female students who have been accepted by or are already enrolled in a master’s program in a nuclear-related field at an accredited university. Such fields include nuclear engineering, nuclear physics, nuclear chemistry, nuclear medicine, isotopic techniques, radiation biology, nuclear safety, nuclear security, nonproliferation and nuclear law, and certain other technical areas. In addition, students must be from IAEA member countries.

Assessment of applications: Applications will be assessed by an IAEA technical selection committee based on such criteria as the applicant’s entry requirements, educational background, prior achievements, and motivation, as well as the potential impact of the fellowship on the applicant’s career goals and commitment to public service. The committee will also consider other factors, including diversity in geographic area, field of study, and linguistic background.

Notification of acceptance: All applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision by email.
