WM Symposia Inc., the nonprofit organization that hosts the annual Waste Management Conference in Phoenix, Ariz., has launched a new initiative dedicated to supporting educators in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

“The WM STEM Educators’ Council will provide its members with a venue to network, share best practices, and access subject-matter experts, teaching materials, and classroom enhancements,” the organization said.

According to WM Symposia, council members will also be able to participate in quarterly virtual events such as industry-specific workshops and professional development opportunities, as well as attend the annual conference, which has several sessions targeted specifically for educators.

More details: A call for nominations to the WM STEM Educators’ Council will be issued this fall. The inaugural group will be announced at WM2025, to be held March 9–13, 2025, at the Phoenix Convention Center.

Initial funding for the council was provided by a $10,000 grant from Fluor with matching funds from WM Symposia’s STEM program, which was initiated in 2019. Membership is open to U.S. and non-U.S. educators in K-12 as well as higher education, in both traditional and nontraditional environments.
